English Dogs are an English punk rock/crossover thrash band, founded in 1981. Born in the midst of the punk period, the band immediately established itself on the English scene by touring with bands of the genre such as Charged GBH and Discharge. However, after the departure of singer Peter “Wakey” Wakefield, with the new guitarist Graham “Gizz” Butt the group decided to evolve over the years into a real heavy metal group: with the albums Invasion of the Porky Men and Forward Into Battle the group then decided to move closer to the more typical sounds of the NWOBHM. After continuous dissolutions, one of which occurred in 1987 with the activity resumed in 1993 with the return of the vocalist Wakey, in 1997 they closed their doors again, changing their name to Janus Stark and remaining in activity until 2002, the year in which the group decided to withdraw from the scene following internal conflicts. In the following years the band resumed its activity but branched off into two separate groups: in 2007 Wakey decided to re-found the group under the name English Dogs, but this time in a punk rock guise; at the same time in 2011, Gizz, on the occasion of the United States tour, decided to withdraw the band with the same name and with the rest of the old original lineup, but instead creating a project with a thrash metal/hardcore punk crossover sound. As a result, two parallel projects with the same name were created, although in 2017 Wakey decided to end his incarnation of the English Dogs, effectively keeping the Gizz lineup alive.
